Living with a Golden Retriever Mix

Golden Retriever Mix
Golden Retriever Mix
In terms of their temperament, the golden retriever mix is very loyal and intelligent dogs. They will work well with children once the children are old enough to safely play with a large dog. They are friendly dogs and not suitable as guard dogs because of it. With adequate companionship they are happiest when living out of doors. They will become destructive nuisances if they are not given firm leadership and daily exercise both mentally and physically. They begin to act like rambunctious puppies. They are difficult to train but can become well-mannered if you can do so. The golden retriever mix need humans to be consistent pack leaders, confident, and firm. These dogs eat much less food than you would imagine. They will consume their food quickly so feeding them too much will lead to bloating and obesity.

In terms of size the male dogs range between 24 and 26 inches in height while the females range between 22 and 24 inches. The males weigh between 80 and 95 pounds while the females weight between 70 and 85 pounds. In terms of health issues, these dogs are prone to his dysplasia and bloating.

You should not invest in a golden retriever mix if you live in an apartment. They will remain active indoors and out. It is important that they have a large yard, at minimum. In said yard there should be a high fence whose base is deeply buried because these dogs will dig their way out of the yard. They will roam in “their” territory aimlessly. Their coat can withstand extreme cold but not heat. During hotter weather they should be provided with plenty of shade and cool water. These dogs need a reasonable amount of exercise such as walks each day but you should be cautious that they do not get overheated when there is warm weather.
