Golden Retriever Facts
Here are some Gold Retriever Facts for those looking to find out more about the most lovable breed ever!

  • Golden Retrievers are known to be the most loving and gentle dogs.
  • They are nurturing play pals to the kids and work as a great companion to adults. Overall, a family dog who is intelligent, friendly and kind with great looks.
  • The origin and the name – Golden Retrievers were first bred in Scotland and developed from Spaniels. They were named Golden Retrievers because of their shiny golden yellow coats and their ability to ‘retrieve’ in the tough geography of Scotland. They were mostly used for game and hunting purposes back in the 1800s.

  • The nature- Golden Retrievers are purpose bred dogs. They are highly intelligent. In fact the third most intelligent dog breeds. They are kind and loving and would love to play with kids. They are also very obedient and listen to their master’s command at all times. Add to this the playful and puppy-like nature, they are forever babies.
  • They are not all ‘Golden’- The coat color of a Golden Retriever may vary from light yellow to golden yellow. There are also light red and dark red, mahogany colors mixed with the signature golden hue but they are rare as compared to other colors. No matter the color, a Golden Retriever is always a fun dog and you would like having one in your house.
  • It has varieties- Golden Retrievers also has a few varieties when it comes to countries. The original European Retrievers are more muscular with shorter tails and shorter legs. The head is generally wide like the body. The American type Golden Retriever on the other hand is a more laidback kind with a slender and slimmer built as compared to the European counterpart. There is also a specific Canadian Golden Retriever type. These dogs are taller, slimmer and also come in deeper colors.
  • Kind Companions- Golden Retrievers are very kind to people and animals around them. You might have had problems keeping two or more dogs in the house. However, if it’s a Golden Retriever, it will never be quarrelsome. If you have seen the movie ‘Air Bud’, you know what to expect from this dog.
  • They have two coats- Golden Retrievers have a wavy and lustrous top coat and a hidden undercoat to keep them warm. They shed this coat twice a year and you may have to invest either time or money in keeping the house clean.
