Caring for an English Golden Retriever

English Golden Retriever
An english golden retriever is a strong and muscular dogs. When their height and weight remain proportional, they are one of the most prized dogs. Their head is quite large and very powerful. Their muzzle is short but is wide. The teeth form a level bite. The nose on Saint Bernard Dogs is broad and has open nostrils with black lips. Their eyes are of medium set as are their ears.

An english golden retriever can have one of two coats: rough or smooth. Both types are dense and are white with black, brown, red, or tan markings and combinations. The ears and the face are often black. With rough coats, the hair is a bit longer and the thighs and legs are feathered. Their temperament can be described as gentle and friendly. Saint Bernard dogs are very loyal and perfect to have with children in the home. It is important that they are socialized at a young age to people and other animals. They are very intelligent and easy to train but training should begin early. They should be taught not to jump on people at a young age because of their size; even an adult would have trouble with an unruly dog this large.

After they drink or eat they drool a lot but no matter the circumstances they remain good guard dogs. So long as they know what is expected of them, they will behave. English golden retrievers have a great sense of smell and know when danger is approaching in the form of storms or avalanches. They range in height from 25.5 inches to 27.5 inches and in weight from one hundred to two hundred pounds.

They are prone to certain health problems such as skin problems, heart problems, hip dysplasia, or tumors. They are prone to bloating so they should only be fed two to three small meals each day rather than a single large meal. These dogs can manage in an apartment if they receive enough exercise. They are mostly inactive when they are indoors and having a small yard is enough for them. They would prefer to remain with their families rather than living outdoors. They will also wheeze or snore and have a very low tolerance for warmth in terms of weather, cars, or rooms.

An english golden retriever needs to get exercise just like any other dog. They should be taken on a long walk each day in order maintain solid mental and physical conditions. As puppies they should not be exercised too much, but rather, short walks or brief playing until they are two years old. This is because their bones have not formed completely as a puppy and are weak. These dogs will live between eight and ten years.

In terms of grooming, a simply bristle brush can be used to comb through the fur and mild soap should be used to wash when necessary. The first english golden retriever had short hair and were used as family pets around the world.
